If you have a delivery system from a legitimate combat sport (NOT AIKIDO OR TAICHI), you can start incorporating whatever kind of goofy wrist locks you want. Aeso has started several threads on exactly that.
If you don't have a delivery system, all your studies will be one big LARP.
I agree. And that will lead to the development of a new style. Over time that style will become traditional and generations down the track will lock that into a cultural routine. Then the style will "die" and the components will be broken apart to form new styles.
Put it this way, a lot of dead traditional styles were once used by fighters and it was probably very effective at that time until it carried all the cultural baggage.
