Guy Who Pays the Bills and Gets the Death Threats Style: MMA (Retired)--
I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that fighting is fighting, and being attached to style names is idiotic. You're either good at it, or you aren't. Your instructor is either good, or he isn't.
But that's just me after a long day of bullshit. -

I respect Jason greatly... he's even posted here.
But to me it seems he's trying to put a tuxedo on a pig. You can either fight, or you can't. Jason learned what worked and what didn't by doing MMA and Pankration fights. He's an MMA/Pankration fighter.
He can call it Aikido all day long, but that doesn't change what his experience is. I could put a big spoiler, a 2.5 liter engine with larger turbo, and an STi sticker on my WRX but that doesn't make it an STi.
Attachment to style "themes" is unproductive, and irrational. -

Most Ma´s have enought arsenal to make you a decent fighter, if trained properly (at least, in one range). They could benefit greatly from proper training regimes.
That would be the first step.
The second would be objetively and honestly analizing what the style lacks, and crosstrain in it.
That would probably lead to a style with "MMA looks". -

To take your car analogy, it seems to me like somebody taking the shell of an old classic car off the bricks, fixing it up and giving it a fresh coat of paint and then racing it against modern sports cars, just because he think's it's cool.

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you're not trying to pass your Chevelle off as a Ferrari Enzo.

Again, we get to the same point: training regime.

The majority of them do not want to do so. Most people don't seek out Martial Arts schools where they're going to get beat on or even forced to prove their fighting ability before progressing in rank.
