    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Also taught in Arnis

Overhand rights/lefts are also taught in arnis. Strike numbers 6 and 10. For those of you not FMA inclined these are thrusts with the stick that target the same side brachial plexus and eye. Take away the stick and voila you have a right cross. It is one of the most intuitive translations in Modern Arnis stick work to open hand. It is also very useful in stick/stick if you do it with the live hand.

Hmmm, guess it's not as neglected as I first thought. Truthfully, I've only trained boxing in two different gyms, but in my experience it was never a part of the cirriculum.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

I've honestly never been taught it as part of a boxing curriculum. We've done it a very little bit in my muay thai class but not terribly much. I mostly use it because it's such a natural reaction to a given scenario.

Yeah, that's my point. It's such a great tool that it needs to be drilled really well so that it can be a really strong part of one's boxing toolbox.

My overhand right is more commited than most. I lean way into it. I try to time the punch so it lands as my opponent is trying to shoulder-roll off what he thinks will be a right cross. But it comes over his shoulder and hits him behind and under his ear. Almost at the base of the neck.

And, No. I don't care. Like I have said before my striking style relies on the blitz. I throw lots of punches, many of them are bombs, and whether I hit you in the face or the neck doesn't matter to me. What matters is that you respect my punches and go on defense. I prefer punching at someone who has turtled than someone who is throwing.
