Ok, the way he controls his balance and the balance of his opponent is evident, why do you suppose a white belt in bjj was better at takedowns than a black belt in judo?

Because:

1) He doesn't do judo takedowns. He does single/double legs, pulls guard and jumps straight onto the back of his opponent, all of which are frowned upon in sportive judo, which his judoka opponents are unprepared for. Had he tried to fight conventionally, he'd most likely have gotten his ass handed to him by ippon.

2) He's BJ Penn. He's called "The Prodigy" for a reason.

Incidentally, if you jump onto somebody's back in a judo competition, can't you just drop onto your back with him on it and score instant ippon? It was like that when I did judo.

Hmmmm BJ was a white belt in that clip? He looked more like a really good purple belt.

I dont think 99.9% of other BJJ white belts would have fared nearly as well.
