    Good decision.

The 23 is a great choice. If you want to fire .357 from it, all you have to do is buy a barrel in that caliber and drop it in, and it will perform flawlessly.

Their new(ish) 1911-type pistols are actually pretty sweet.

I shoot my dad's every now and then. I prefer it over my basic Colt, frankly. Seems to point better, snap back to the point of aim better; the recoil is straight back as opposed to my Colt's twisting habit. Reliability a non-issue. Not sure what features account for the differences, but it's very nice for the price.

I don't see what could account for that unless one has an arched mainspring housing and the other flat, or unless they have radically different grip safeties. The Smith comes with a beavertail, so if your Colt has the "original" style you probably can't grip as high as someone with a beavertail would (does it "bite" the web of your hand when your grip is too high?")

I haven't fired the SW1911, but I really don't see what it has to offer that all the other gazillion 1911 clones don't.

The Glock 23 is a good weapon. Have you held it? Fired it? If you liked it and it felt comfortable, it should serve you very well. Remember that TRIGGER FINGER!

Don't forget that .22. No one should be without one.

I'd get one of these if I had a choice.

If you're looking to Glock, my suggestions are the Glock 22 (.40 Cal), the Glock 21 (.45 Cal), or the Glock 35 tactical model (also in .40 Cal).

Not yet. I have shot the Glock 19 and really liked it. I am figuring the other compacts will be similiar. However, I do plan to shoot before I buy. I also plan to ask about changing the barrel between the .40 cal and .357 cal.

Phoenix, thanks for the advice, but I've anyway prefer smaller (not too small) weapons and the standard have always felt a little big. But again, I will Compare the Glock 22 to the 23, before I buy.

Thanks a lot for the drills SFGOON. I do have an instructor for shooting who is quite knowledgable.

    Thanks everyone for the advice!

Nothing. Same gadgets as all the rest. It does have an arched mainspring housing, beaver-tail grip safety, and a full length guide rod. My Colt doesn't.

Next one for me is custom, however.

I agree with Don on the .22 issue. If you don't have one, and you want to be a good handgun shot, you need one.

I have a Ruger Mark II and I love it. I don't know if the Mark III is the same or not. My only beef with the gun is putting it back together. It is fucking gun reassembly hell.
