Actually I didn't know that the rank system came from Judo. Nice to learn something new.

My point wasn't that karate invented it...I was taking what I know to be a fact and applying it to the topic at hand.

The point being that when you're getting a political rank it doesn't really matter who promotes you...because you're getting your rank for political reasons not your fighting ability.

Does anyone know where "figting ranks" end and "political ranks" begin in Judo?

    a) Because I want to be a dick for no reason
    b) Because by placing the thread in Bullshido it seemed that he was suggesting that those promotions were bullshit...but he didn't give any reasons why it was bullshit.

I suppose I could have been more constructive in my first post and asked him why he was posting in bullshido and did he think the promotions were bullshit but I just want to fit in with everyone else here and be mean :P

Anyway, appologies to Cdnronin for coming across as a dick, it wasn't my intention to be rude...just to challenge your reasons for calling bullshit...but I guess that you wern't calling bullshit so I'm just a dick. :)

Ok, was he talking MA in general, specifically judo? The art he studies or what?

"pretty much" is a pretty lose term.

I'll rephrase my question garbanzobean - where can I find information on the dan requirements for promotion in judo?

    Limey,

My point was pple didn't just copy the belt system they also copied the politics.

    Judo Rank System
Here is a link to give you an idea of the Judo rank system. There isn't really any irconclad standard but as I said before by 6th dan you have done all the fighting you really need to do, for promotion that is.

Had to post I agree with Carbon for once, even if I would have phrased the sentiment in a slightly more friendly manner. =P
