    New Kodokan 10th dans

Picked this up from the Judo Information Site

Toshiro Daigo who is 80 years old, Ichiro Abe who is 83 years old and Yoshimi Osawa who is 79 years old, were promoted to 10 Dan by the Kodokan.

The promotion occurred during the opening New Years Ceremonies.

You can't practice Judo just to win a Judo Match! You practice so that no matter what happens, you can win using Judo!

Now that is a more legit topic for Bullshido.

From my knowledge of Shotokan 1st-3rd Dan is based on skill. After that it's political and based on contributions to the martial art. I've got a book with the requirements listed somewhere.

Assuming other martial arts are similar I'd say that being given one of the "political ranks" that is not based on skill by lower grades in the governing body of the organization isn't that big of a deal.

Now if a 1st dan promotes someone to 3rd...well that's bullshido.

^Why are you causing trouble for the thread starter? I mean ****...he is just passing on some information which someone seemed to find valueable.

So why don't you just back the **** off :)
I'll make one when I can find one I like.

I got Daigo's Kodokan Judo Throwing Techniques for Christmas, and it appears to be **** from what I've had time to read.

He has forgotten more about Judo than most people will probably ever learn. How long has he been the head instructor at the Kodokan now?

You do know that the kyu/dan rank system and the colored belt system used by almost every Asian, and non asian, MA today comes from Judo.

Yes that's true most people think that Karate invented the belt system. It was actually Jigoro Kano the founder of Judo who did.
