    The Cop in Class

    Well a new semester started at my work and with it a whole new batch of morons have come back to the labs. Yesterday a student came in (he was a new cop) decited to come into class with his side arm on and loaded (and wiyth no uniform or badge). What a freaking asshole. We had to call security and have the local polivce department come and let him know that he was making other students uncomfortable.

    Talk about haveing the need for people to look at you and getting attention.

    Yet another reason why i disslike that the mayority of cops.

    Most people who "disslike" the "mayority" of LEOs have other reasons for doing so.

    Very true, i do have me reasons. But, a large part of it is just that, tyhe atitude problem. "I can and i'n a man and better than you, because i'm a cop... oink, oink."

    In most places in the US, off duty cops are allowed to carry their sidearms as long as they have their badges and ID with them. In some places, it's actually a requierment that they do so.

    Maybe you should tell the nearest officer you're lost and need to be returned to your third grade classroom.

    He probably wasn't a real police officer to begin with. I've never met anyone carrying a badge who was that stupid.

    And if he actually was a cop, he won't be one for very long.

    Saw a guy at Mike's Deli the other night in line with me. Wearing a sidearm+2clips. AND a shirt with some "Tactical shooter club" logo all over it. Mighta been an off-duty cop. But I doubt it. More than likely a guy with a weapons permit who liked to strut around wishing he was a cop. But inside he was deathly afraid of the world - so afraid in fact - that he wore that gun out in the open as often as possible so that nobody would threaten him.

    I sorta laughed to myself though. My 4" folder + experience > him at a distance of 3 feet.

    I have no problems with police wearing their weapons. But if it makes other people nervous he should have had the common courtesy not to display it in public. More of an issue with the person, not the profession. Having it readily accessible in a classroom? Meh. Having it with you, and not in a bag that could be misplaced, before your shift on duty could have some merit as an arguement.

    The asshole wasn't even wearing his badge. He only had a shirt that said the name of a dept. and his weapon on the side.

    I can't recall who said it first, but it wasn't me.

    Anyone so scared of the world that they would carry a firearm with them at all times is either so cautious he's getting his prostate and testes checked for cancer twice a week or he's just another macho asshole.

    I'm with Osiris on this one. However, there is one thing unanswered here: How does a cop, armed or not, make everyone so uncomfortable that they would call security and bring more cops into the situation? I doubt the weapon alone did that. :car8:
