I love this typo.
About the subject of the thread:
I don't mind if you use MA training for things different to ass kicking people (fitness, socializing, self developement, money, fame, sharing showers with unknown people, etc. ...) but the ability to fight is a must even if your objectives are not fighting related.
You can have fitness in a fitness gym, socializing in a pub and watching naked people in the beach. If you go to learn MA, then you go to learn how to fight, the other things are by products (or collateral damages if you want) of the training.

Should also note that many physical activities teach this respect and building of character. Ever been on a high school football team? college wrestling team? They're all about building character and teamwork and respect for one another and all that stuff. But the primary purpose of those sports is not to teach ethics, but to play football and do wrestling. Similarly in Martial Arts, the primary focus is learning combative ass kicking skills.
From what I understand, the only martial arts that really get into the respect stuff and bowing and hang on to that as a lifeline are those that are influenced by Japanese and Okinawan arts - everything from karate to anything Korean. The only reason they have all that **** is because they base their class structure on a military regime. It was not out of some age old desire to develop "good people".
