I have seen your video clips on this thread and the other threads as well. Also, I realize, from observation and reading, that you are lax with your hands because the videos are more demonstration than anything else. However, not to be a dick, but I think if you were to show proper form and technique, regardless of the circumstances, more people would be able to use your clips for instructional purposes. You have a lot to offer, especially to those of us who do not study Muay Thai or CMA. Remember, practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. Always do your best. Overall, I enjoy your clips. :ninjafigh
Thanks. I'll think about that.
That's a terrifying thought that had actually not crossed my mind. But you're right. If I took the care to try and make them more "standard" all around, they could be of more use than just conversation starters.
...more people would be able to use your clips for instructional purposes....
Now gently stepping around Thaiboxeren's attempts to troll me and get this thread thrown out of the forum into "Your martial art sucks" and answering some of his criticisms because they do highlight legitimate differences in our ideals of motion:
I mean, your hips don't lead your leg.
I know what you mean. It's just not that important to me. I'm trying to lead with my center rather than with the hips. It's not that I don't get power from the hips but instead of whipping it out there I am trying to create what is called "zheng jin". The whole body as a unit at the moment of impact. Not an impulse whipping out the leg but the full weight of the body rocking onto the other guy.
Why sacrifice kicking with actual power for the ability to "change what your doing mid stream?" Are you prepping for some TKD point fighting?
I understand that you believe that my kicks are slow and innefectual. Nevertheless, taking it as easy as I did, today my partner from the last batch of clips showed me how I had thoroughly bruised up his left arm, both legs and one knee. Today we had to agree to no kicking as he needed a chance to heal.
I have a clip coming up on a new thread showing contrasting some fairly conventional footwork with my shitty unbalanced Chinese footwork. Feel free to troll me there too.
You're entitled to your opinion. All I can say is that it appears that it went completely over your head and since you have proven yourself neither able, willing or even interested in learning anything new...not just here but on any thread you have ever participated in in your entire stay at Bullshido it's not worth the effort to try and explain it to you. You're already kind of on a virtual ignore. I am answering much of your post not for your benifit but for the sake of others who are lurking and thought much the same thing.
Doesn't matter. It's basic physics. If you step to the right, then kick towards the left, you are fighting your own inertia. Sure you can still spin, but most of your power went into the air towards the right by the time your kick impacts your target, which is to your left at this time.
I see, so you didn't look at the camera with a goofy look on your face?[/quote]
Thanks for proving my point about trolling. You said that I was looking away from my partner when kicking. Now you are admiting in your own post that I was looking at the camera man. I guess you had the sound turned off too so you couldn't here me actually talking to the camera man.
Still waiting for the pics. It's so easy. The footage is up there. Just take a still out of the video and you will have a point. Right now it just looks like you are trolling.
But the purpose of leading with the hips is putting your weight behind the kick.

here are the areas you could be using to make power:
-flexion of the abdomen
-flexion of the hip joint
-extension of the knee joint
and here are the ones you are using (kinda):
-body weight (though since you are walking in, i geuss this means its at walking speed)
-flexion of the hip joint (not the most powerful muscles to be sure)
so where does your power come from?
about the pivoting back and closing your leg thing. its like you are throwing a punch and then letting it come back to your gaurd at a nice leisurely pace, no real urgency. basically, you throw the kick and then relenquish any other strikes or good defense for the next second or two because you have to let your kick come back. im going to the georgia aquarium with my girl today so i cant post any video or pictures.but give me another day.
Instead of asking if I do or don't lead with the hip why not just look at the clips?
I'll put up some vid caps later but suddenly I am real busy over here.
Well, you donīt seem to be leading with the hips.
And Iīnot saying that you donīt/canīt kick powerful, iīm just saying that I donīt see leading with the hips on that clips.
But wouldn't that require extra effort?

I'll get back to you later Light's Out.
Still waiting for anyone else at all to post something of their own to talk about.
Can't view clips at work - but the air-kick I watched last night seemed to have plenty of rotation or pivot or turning or whatever the hell you want to call it to generate power.
But I try to STFU about kicking since if my feet come off the floor more than an inch or so I'm doing it wrong.
Crap, I can't watch the clips from work... stupid firewall thinks megauploads is a porn site or something. Which means I'll have to wait until tonight to watch them... damn.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
