    I believe you. Hehe.

The way I learned it was as mentioned from the side or knee on belly.
    Say you're here.

(attention, attention, not knee on belly. Want to do it from there? impossible imho. First secure the first grip, then jump down to the side and continue as usual)

First hand(your left) grabs the lapel under the neck, over with the other hand(guess which) and grab the lapel on the other side like you would a bat (obviously) and bring your elbows together (top arm's elbow to the floor) to tighten it.

Weird. So UpaLumpa's baseball bat chokes are always from guard. I'd always been taught it from knee-on-belly, where you finish by spinning to north-south, and this is how it is taught in many instructionals (Kenny Florian gi seminar, Gustavo Dantes, etc.)

Baret Yoshida shows the no-gi one from knee-on-belly/side control, where you just use a palm-to-palm grip behind their head. I've never had faith with these kind of chokes (same goes for no-gi ezekiels) so I never really do them, but I'll give it another try now.

    I reviewed Baret's book/DVD here:

*mental note not to train there*

This is what I mean by no-gi baseball bat choke:

Maybe I should call it something else, but I felt like further confusing grappling terminology.

I didn't. The point though was that this is a choke that goes through waves of popularity, but is one that can sneak up on anyone.
Hell, watch the video I posted above. There is nothing fancy about the setup or execution there and a purple DID go out.

Weird grip, but I'll take the bjj blackbelt's word for it.
I don't like the no-gi baseball choke much, it is hard for me to clamp it down on a sweaty opponent.

No, you have it right. No idea how this is pulled off from guard though. I think someone else's terminology is wrong.

I've been told you can't get the no-gi version from guard. I tried on some noob last night to check and ended up having to roll him over by his head and finish him from top.

Cross choke from under north-south by setting it up from my guard.

    My guard.
Put hands straight, not crossed, deep back into his collar, right hand palm up and left hand palm down.
Make it look like you're working on something and "accidentally" open your guard for him to pass at the right side.
Once he's cleared the legs, walk your legs quickly to the left and rotate so that you end up in bottom north-south.
You now have an very tight cross choke.

Make sure to try against beginners. Keep your elbows close and spin around quick or you'll get armbarred.

As mentioned on the gimmick thread, I've now managed to baseball choke from under mount.
