Weird. So UpaLumpa's baseball bat chokes are always from guard. I'd always been taught it from knee-on-belly, where you finish by spinning to north-south, and this is how it is taught in many instructionals (Kenny Florian gi seminar, Gustavo Dantes, etc.)
Baret Yoshida shows the no-gi one from knee-on-belly/side control, where you just use a palm-to-palm grip behind their head. I've never had faith with these kind of chokes (same goes for no-gi ezekiels) so I never really do them, but I'll give it another try now.
I reviewed Baret's book/DVD here:

Maybe I should call it something else, but I felt like further confusing grappling terminology. -

No, you have it right. No idea how this is pulled off from guard though. I think someone else's terminology is wrong.

Style: BJJ & Judo (1k)--
Cross choke from under north-south by setting it up from my guard.
My guard.
Put hands straight, not crossed, deep back into his collar, right hand palm up and left hand palm down.
Make it look like you're working on something and "accidentally" open your guard for him to pass at the right side.
Once he's cleared the legs, walk your legs quickly to the left and rotate so that you end up in bottom north-south.
You now have an very tight cross choke.
Make sure to try against beginners. Keep your elbows close and spin around quick or you'll get armbarred. -
