My favorite part is how the necroer has managed to blame his failure to learn how to do squats and run on kata. I'm not sure if kata practice is a worse conditioning tool than stance training is a strength training tool, but the two are running a close race.It seems to me that the Sanjuriu Martial Art is not in guestion, but, rather the character of Mr. Galt.

I know this thread has turned into "roast Australia", but I've been busy...
[So there's absolutely no confusion: kata is not fighting. Please spar, roll, fight, etc...]
BUT... You get no points if your kata is set to music, performed in a Stars'N'Stripes hakama, and accompanied by sparkly double-bladed kama. Weapons and Vampires aren't meant to sparkle. Sharp edges might "gleam" but they do not sparkle.
If you're making up your form and setting it to pop-music, you need to be punched. Really. It would be an improvement.

Kata is kata. There's all kinds of different kata and they all "teach" different things. Then you do bunkai, fool about with what may be in the kata and end up sparring.
That's how I like to train and I think it kinda makes sense.
Sparring all the time isn't a good way to train, but neither is exclusively kata.
