Yes, BJJ advocates cross training, but that's a generic blanket statement. :XXonlyamo The original question (highlighted above) was regarding one own's personal experience. This question is formulated that way is because every person will have a different experience, and will encounter situations that may be unique.

Can you comment on your own experience... ie. taking classes, sparring (with BJJ and non-BJJ dudes), cross-training? Since the original topic of this thread was a comparison of BJJ and AJJ, and it so happens that one main difference is striking, can you care to comment how you have personally added, or plan to add striking to your game?

Please elaborate. Define mediocre. Compared to what? On what context? And most important of all... who? Be specific.

    BTW, where do you train?

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

I've learned through the experience of others to not disclose personal information to body builders.
This tactic has served me well in the past and I trust it to serve me in the future.

I grapple, the VT and striking I do at my school I do because I have to (in warmups). I'm not planning on adding anything because I don't give a crap.

And mediocre is typified by 90% of the grappling demonstrated by MMA gyms. Or 'freestyle jujutsu'.
The exceptions are those schools with legitimate fight teams.

    So good luck with that.

Would you consider putting people in the UFC as "legitimate"?

I was addressing the comments in a more general sense, but yes that would count (though ironically stout has not won in the UFC and his one submission is a guill).
He also is listed as Muay Thai.
