    Hell yeah! Hell no!
Have you ever tried a karate side kick to someone going for a proper takedown?

There's a reason no one tries it. Cause it's teh stupid!

Have you? Of course not. Cause you are teh stupid!

How can a grappler/aikido/jujuitsu artist come in for a proper takedown if there's a foot and knee aiming for their chest or legs? And don't say they'll dodge it. Because they won't. And oh yeah...

You must not come from a diversified martial arts area. I've seen it done many times.

kyokushin roundhouse vs MT roundhouse would be a more interesting debate.
it would accomplish absolutely nothing and lots of it, but it would be more interesting than "karate sidekick ownz all i-have-never-watched-a-kickboxing-match-in-my-life" nonsense.

You are an idiot. The counter to a proper takedown is a sprawl. Everyone knows it. No one throws Karate Sidekicks at someone shooting. You must come from an area where all Martial Artists suck.

They don't have to dodge your leg, they can simply grab it.

there's a perfect example. The guy throws a few sidekicks and gets owned every freakin time. And don't try the "OH those aren't like OUR sidekicks" argument.

Agreed. If sidekicks were the proper defense against takedowns you'd think MMA fighters would use them instead of Muay Thai roundhouses.

Yeah not saying it was a good match, but just used it to display how sidekicks don't really send wrestlers flying across the ring like in movies.

Jesus. Okay, I admit, against that, a sidekick would probably do nothing. But it seems that the focus of how kicks and punches are thrown are being compared to UFC and MMA. I was thinking of in the dojo and on the street. Not in a cage.

I'll try not to be rude.

. A ring is circular. You have limited space. In a dojo, you have all the space you need. A dojo is usually square. The sidekick, is a straight kick. It can't be thrown at angles. Sometimes you have to step back. That guy was trying to throw his kick when the guy in the shorts rushed in. He didn't move. He got bowled over. If you are able to move freely, it is easier to throw the kick.
