Hell yeah! Hell no!

Is this BJJ school worth it? Or is it Bullshido?

http://www.blackbeltstudios.com.au

From looking at the site, I'm not sure whether to even bother.

The "what we teach" sounds very vague.

The instructor has an American flag on his gi, despite being an Australian instructor for an Australian school.

Many people want to practice the martial arts for arts sake alone; they are not interested in whether or not it works in the real world. Many people are interested in the meditation, or in speaking Japanese, or the traditional and cultural aspects of the martial arts. If you are one of these people, then you will be sadly disappointed at Black Belt Studios.

Do they even know that there are martial arts outside of Japan?

I thought I should try the free 3 nights trial, but I'm not sure if I'm wasting my time.

Does it sound worth it? Or should I look around more?

Also the 666 in the phone number is a bit suss :S.

It sounds like **** from the website, but it might be totally different. Take the 3 night trial. What have you got to lose?

Take the lessons and report back and we can better tell if it's good or not.

The instructor is a legitimate black belt. I don't really understand what your reservations are. Maybe you could enlighten us?

The place looks like its a McDojo, but I doubt they're teaching bullshido.

Also the 666 in the phone number is a bit suss :S.
Are you serious?

Stupid Wing Chun person.

"He was finally awarded the rank of black belt by Rigan and Jean Jacques Machado in 1998; making him one of the 'BJJ Dirty Dozen', the first twelve non-Brazilian BJJ black belts in the world."

I admit, the website does sound a little over the top, and I think his site http://www.bjj.com.au/ is more popular now, but this is as credible a BJJ school as you are going to find.

A lot of people here have experience with him... I believe johnnyS is an instructor under him and he is the shiznit when it comes to grappling advice.

Well, sent an email off for more information and hopefully when I can take the trial classes. I'll probably have to do it after Christmas, but I hope it will be fun :D

Holy **** dude. GO THERE NOW.

John Will is not just the real deal as BJJ but he is actively involved in getting practitioners from other martial arts into BJJ to round out their curriculum.

I have not heard anything negative about the guy.

90% of the quality BJJ in New Zealand is based on affiliation with John Will.

I can't say it strongly enough HE IS NOT BULLSHIDO.

TRAIN. THERE. NOW.

His students compete regularly all over the place and do very well.
