Are MMA fights fixed!?!?!?!
I brought this up in another thread but have had few responses.
This subject probably deserves it's on thread anyway so...

Who cares? They're still entertaining.

I should have just continued to watch professional wrestling then.

Why would you make a new thread, just to point to a thread that already has people responding to it?I'll make one when I can find one I like.

That thread was about a particular event...my question runs deeper than that.
I am questioning the sport in general. How much WWFesque bullshit is present in the real sport of MMA?

Well, speaking for the local events (www.thecageinc.com) - no, not fixed.
Some showmanship, sure - one of the better fighters, posts here on occasion, been accused of a bit of that; another fighter makes sure to wait 2-3 minutes after his name's called before coming out. (But, to be fair, I knew of some high school wrestlers who would play to the crowd.)
And there's some trash talking, sometimes between fighters, on the online forum from above.
It is a show, with a few hundred screaming fans.
But the fights themselves are not fixed. I can say that from a small bit of personal experience.

More than we know about, less than enough to be important. You'll see more questionable stuff when MMA makes near-boxing money. Who's going to get bribed or risk a career in MMA over a $5k fight?
But how'd you be able to tell if someone was throwing a fight or just unlucky enough to get caught in a triangle or something? You can't make people smarter. You can expose them to information, but your responsibility stops there.

No fight I've ever seen looks like a work. This includes live local shows going back to 1999 and many UFC's and Pride on the TV.

People keep telling me that several Pride fights have been worked. Sakuraba vs Randleman keeps coming up, where Randleman apparently took a dive. Any truth to that?

Shannon Ritch vs Dan Severn is the most recent fixed MMA fight that comes to mind. Although both deny it, it looks pretty questionable.
