And about 'inventing your own style'...

isn't that the goal of every good martial artist...to use what works for him/her and toss the rest out?

    What is wrong w/ that?

Sounds suspiciously like some guy with a JMA background realised that there was more market opportunity in "Kung Fu".... whatever that happens to be... and set himself up to get at the loot.

    Genghis Bob...

How much do you have to pay?
Roughly how many students are there?
And do you do any sparring? And if so can you describe it?
Also, when you say that you learn weapons... what do you learn to do with them?

His one great asset is his great memory. From what I could tell after a few months at his place was he is 50% BS and 50% valid. His karate is really good but his kung fu and tai chi are mostly taken from Chinese MA movies. He even does the Bruce Lee screech on occasion and will bust out a Chinese accent. Very sad.

His senior students, my sister whom I love dearly is one, roll their eyes at the fawning of the new students adoration of him. Her husband studied with him even before he opened his Dojo. So I know alot about his school and because of that and the few months I spent I have chosen not to study there. It's like a cult, almost.

For the record he has one black sash and is getting ready to promote another. He does have students that can beat him and they stick around because he is a great coach. He does have physical limitations from birth. He is severly dyslexic. He has atleast 250 regular adult students paying at least $99/month.

This is an old thread but if anyone has any questions I probably know the answers so ask away.

Dyslexia is not a physical limitation. It is a mental disorder. I am mildly dyslexic by the way.

Dyslexia has nothing to do with being able to train martial arts or teach them.

I mentioned his dyslexia because someone else did and I just wanted to confirm it. I have mild dyslexia as well. But he claims he can't read. His website was done by students. Actually his pond and waterfall in his Dojo were done by students. Come to think of it, every renovation in his Dojo was done by students.

For the record...I wasn't defending him. I was simply stating that accusations were being made about a school owner that were based on a conversation between two morons that were students of his. That is not exactly a quality source to base calling someone B.S.

Aside from teaching karate mixed with kung fu and telling the occasional fib about the secret Shaolin master he does have skills. He isnt a fraud in that sense. But then I used to study tai chi so what do I know?
