Yes, you get to play around with big sticks in Aikido.

By that I mean, use the search function. Dude, "what to look for in a good dojo" has been discussed endless times before.
Here let me help you:
http://www.bullshido.net/forums/show...&page=12&pp=15
Read from that page onwards, and pay particular attention to Peter H. and DCS (casually scroll over the initial pleasantries between Peter and myself :). I think DCS does Iwama style Aikido which focuses on weapons.
Look at Peter's and DCS's training methods. -

Want to learn to use staffs properly, then take up Jodo or Some form of CMA that teaches staff. Aikido practices Kobudo for their own use of defense and principle. And going to an Aikido school for Weapons is like going to a BJJ school for strikes. They know it exists, and if they're serious they will mention the defense involved, but you won't learn to strike well in a BJJ school, nor will you learn good weapon use in Aikido schools
Unless your instructor has experience beyond Aikido and includes extra time just for weapons themselves.More human than human is our motto. -
