You are right, even as a Chinese, I can tell you Chinese are weak. We know that.

Why? How can the people be strong if the government put everyone in jail for being strong?

Doctors forced to become farmers. While farmers become city mayors. Thats what happened to China.

Give it 100 years, even a strong art would become a weak one.

Say Thailand government one day says that no more MT fighting, only MT dancing. 100 years later, you think MT would still be effectively transfered to other countries?? No way.

Why are most Wing Chun masters from Hong Kong? Because hong kong was NOT under China's ruling for 100 years!!

Think I'm gonna go rub some Tiger Balm on my scrotum. That ought get the old chi flowing.

MT teaches awesome leg skills. I don't need to know the Thai dance to know a low kick hurts like hell, or to become proficient in using it. Same with WC-related skills. I would use tight, straight hits (WCish) in a cramped environment that required it, but thats a SKILL set, not an ART form.

All and all a good intentioned post....but one that assumes people give a **** about the 'deeper' aspects of fighting arts. I do, but I don't think most of the guys who are focused strictly on fighting MMA do. Firstly because its a sport/athletic endeavour that is not philosophically based, and secondly because MMA draws SKILLS from so many different cultures and cultural subsets that it would be impossible to experience them all.
I think you don't understand what I was talking about. You are still trying to think like the west, and trying to apply the west idea to an Asian art. And this is exactly why people under-estimate the chinese art in this board.

And this is why i say Non-asians will never truely understand the asia art.

I don't need you to tell me a MT low kick works, I know because i do it every week!! That is not even the point.

No, you do NOT need to understand the art to be a good fighter. BUT, if you mix up an art with anything else, then there is a problem. And this what I was trying to get at.

And this is why a lot of people practice "Chi" thinking it's magic. Get what I am trying to say now?

If someone wants to learn a martial art as part of learning about another culture, that's their choice.

If someone wants to learn how to fight, that is their choice.

And if someone wants to learn how to fight and is interested in systems that teach fighting and hears someone banging with a bunch of sanctimonious ethnocentric chauvinistic twaddle about what the martial arts are "really about" he might very well yell "BULLSHIDO".
Gosh, you still don't understand the point of my thread.

I'll just say this. Travel more. Your views will be different. Then you'll realize the whole "bullshido" thing is just a white man's misunderstanding of something they TRIED to understand.

They can't figure it out, so they call "bull ****" on it. While chinese people shake their head.
