A sure way to put a stop to Mcdojos

Okay this is the first subject I made. Heres a plan to stop all Mcdojos in the United States. First create an organisation free of Mcdojos. I can't think of a better name for it, so I'll call it The Guild.
To join The Guild you have to meet certain criteria, but it's more like you have to have an absent of things. Imagine an inspector going into a martial arts school.
"What kind of **** is this." "What do you mean." "You have kids with black belts running around. "And why the **** do you have 5, 6 dans running around your school." "I'm classifying this school as a Mcdojo."
The inspector should look out for stuff like overcharging, innapropiate sexual behavior with students and a whole bunch of other stuff you guys know about. But he should dismiss certain things like bowing whenever a blackbelt enters or exits the school, star spangled uniform(skill is what is important not the unifrom) rolling around the mat like Sonic the Hedgehog and an unusually amount of spelt blood in the school. Also cult behavior as long as they are absent of Mcdojo behavior but most likely they won't.

Okay I'm done. How do you like the idea? Is it any good?

Sounds like a good idea...a good, solid, Communist idea. All we need are special red uniforms for these elected "Guild" inspectors, government funding, and a ruthless dictator that seems to understand "What is really best for everyone".

Not to knock your idea, but we all have different standards of what constitutes a "Good Martial Arts School". Obvious illegal activity aside, acceptable practices within a school will and should vary.

Besides, can you see the fun little issues that would arise from an organization like this? Each style would impose their own standards on every style...which is silly and uncalled for.

I DO think that every martial style should have a base organization/site that you can safely refer to for credible training per art...but this exists in some aspects already. A guy looking for Teh Reel Aikido will want different things that the guy who is training for "Teh St33t" (TM) or the ring.

So, while nice in theory, I believe I'll go ahead and barricade myself off in my private property while I horde legally owned firearms and pray for a smaller government like a good little Libertarian.

You would join the Guild because it would say that your school is legitimate. It is not a Mcdojo. People in the forums can agree on tell tell signs of a Mcdojo. If the dojo shows any of these signs they are not in the guild.
So if every school is somehow inspected, the ones outside the Guild are Mcdojos. It wouldn't be Socalist because people within the guild would democratically decide on the tell tell signs of a Mcdojo. People of different styles can agree on this it has little to do with techniques.

Your statement has issues on two counts.
Firstly how would such a guild become established, how could you convince schools to join, and how would it be well known enough to be known of by people just entering the martial arts.

Secondly socialism is not in opposition to democracy and in many countries they pair far better then our current capitalist democracy.

1. The Guild would be started by a group of people who really hate the bullshido in the Martial Arts. They would get the schools that they belong to to join the guild. People will be convinced to join the Guild by telling them this.
You have a pretty good Martial Arts school do you want other people to know that your school is good. They would go on and explain to them about the bullshit in Martial arts and say that if you join us people will know that you aren't bullshit.
Any organisation needs money so the people who started it will have to dig into their pockets and ask donations for advertisements. They would advertise using flyers, internet, tv, etc.
To attract new comers artist they would say things like how do you know if the school your going to is a real martial art schools. "If they are part of the guild you won't have to worry. "Our members are totally legitimate." "The ones who are accepted into the guild had to pass legitimacy tests to find out if they are a real schools" "If your school isn't ask why not,"
Saying that the guild will come by for a visit and look at your school to be guild approvred so you won't have to worry. Saying things like that would get newcomers attention. The people who started the guild will have to make sure to screen out the Mcdojos.
2. I realise that I thought everyone would be like Satori, but apparently not. Some kind of way members of the Guild would have to figure out a way to decide what makes a martial art school a Mcdojo.

This has been talked about before. Basically:

The Guild is made up of it's own members (i.e. no higher power to oversee it), therefore it will become corrupt sooner or later. You think Kempo, Karate, Kung Fu, etc., were always so weak? No, eventually people got corrupt and lazy. Same thing here.

Also, you post on your Dojo window "Member of "The Guild" elite blah blah blah" and they will just form their own "Super Guild" better than "The Guild" with no legal way to prove it and you're back to square one.

Sounds like a good idea, but impossible to carry out.

As far as overcharging goes.

BJJ and MMA places charge more than any other martial art around. If you want to do MMA/BJJ be prepared to fork out $120- per month.

Muay Thai schools are similar. I was about to join one up the road from where I live untill I found out they charge $105- per month even though they are a Fairtex gym. No thanks, I'll take Kyokushin at $65 per month.

I hear what you are saying Mr Jones but that idea is just not practical.
