The link http://web.mit.edu/mao/Public/footwork.wmv shows "3" different footwork but doesn't change the footwork at all. It just shows it at a different speed.
Red Elvis is correct it is just basic triangle work and generally is used in advancing/retreating. Nothing torque related in there.
If you want torque you use the third footwork for which I don't have a name for but still is within the premise of the triangle. All footwork is angular based off a triangle. Just cause they got a Pantjar on the floor doesn't make it much different.
There are better videos for this stuff but in all honesty it is better just to go out and find a good teacher.
If you wanna see something reminiscent of "kick ass" go watch Bourne series or The Hunted. They show fairly good examples of Kali. Bourne series shows Kali utilizing improvised weapons(IE: Pen scene).
No one really thought either of those movies were good examples of Kali/Arnis/Eskrima, right? -

That I am. What type of Eskrima do you practice?
I believe the primary influence of what I'm learning is Doce Pares with a little Inosanto smattering. In addition to that I'd assume the Silat taught at my school influences the Kali that is taught. Also the teacher has extensive learning in Wing Chun. -

But the video was under the premise of changing footwork not strike location. Unless I heard him wrong. Strike location for sticks, in my opinion, should always be where there is a bone. Don't strike stick to stick. That's just a waste of energy.
As far as knife goes I've been taught that you have knife bite flesh. Usually aiming for an artery if your life depends on it.
SJ:
I've heard of that style but don't know much about it. What do they focus on the most that you've noticed? I know there is one flavor of Eskrima that focuses on long striking versus utilizing the punyo for trapping/striking. -

Yeah in that clip he doesn't mention what the difference is. So I can't knock it cause he doesn't change footwork. Problem is there is nothing said of what is supposed to be different in that clip.
Just says I'll show it in three different ways. Not much difference besides hunching over or not.
Either way that clip is better than the first in this thread, but it doesn't show much also.
Wait, now I see the difference.
The girl keeps the beat and he gives up on the last one. :emo:Last edited by rabidpanda; 12/28/2005 7:01pm at .
