hmm...a public shout out for bullshido *hint hint
The card was very good and showcased many good fights.
Tim Carpenter won his fight vs Jonathan Helwig. Helwig landed some good shots on the feet before taking Tim down. Tim managed to secure a sit up sweep and take the mount on his opponent for a brief moment. When Helwig bumped back out to the guard, Tim slapped on a triangle and swept to the mount- finishing with a mounted triangle armbar.
Justin Garcia had a large following in the gym, and made quick work of his opponent, taking him down and pounding him before taking the back and choking his opponent unconcious.
Rob Khan came out and immediately took his opponent to the ground, landing in half guard near the edge of the ring. After the refs reposition the fighters to the center, Rob passes the half guard straight to the mount and wraps his opponent's hand around the fighters own head (leaving only one hand to barely defend himself). After landing some heavy blows from this position, Khan switched to the armbar, where his opponent was stubborn, but eventually tapped about 15-20 seconds after the arm was already extended.
Lea Dalla had his fight stopped early due to a cut stoppage. Dalla kept trying to pull his opponent down to the ground with him (who didnt want to be there). Constant standups was the name of this game, and while Dalla was never in any danger, his opponents punches accumulated in the form of (what I was told) was a very bad cut under the eye which led to a ref's stoppage.
That being said- congrats to Rob Khan on his first MMA victory!
Carpenter looked good. Unfortunately, it wasn't Helwig's night... he'll be back, though. He's only been training two years, so he can only get better from this point.
Congratulations to Rob Khan, as well.
Does Helwig train MMA or is he primarily a wrestler/boxer/jiu jitsu fighter?
Timmy is a black belt in BJJ and quite accomplished in no gi- hes had lots of experience on the ground.
Helwig started training with us in no-gi grappling two years ago, and added kickboxing and MMA training to his schedule about a year and a half ago. Previous to that his only experience was sport karate as a kid.
