There seems to be a prevailing sentiment in Judo that groundwork is somehow inferior to (or at least less important than) high-amplitude throws. This doesn't really make sense to me, because, as BJ Penn and that other anonymous dude demonstrate in those videos, it's a possible and not extraordinarily difficult to drag an opponent to the ground with a low-amplitude takedown and achieve ippon with a submission.
I wish that more BJJ practitioners would enter Judo competitions to highlight how much of a weakness this is and perhaps shift Judo training toward newaza. -
