As to the UK version - I have no idea about this, as I would only ever be watching one version, ergo I can't tell if it's different. I wouldn't have thought it would be any different actually. Two major characters are British, so it's not like there's a cultural problem or anything.

If Katie Sackhoff is anything like the character she portrays... damn. Blows the rest of them away. I've never been a fan of women who look like long-haired teenage boys, sorry.
