No strikes obviously. He looked like he was playing until he got hip tossed then he started playing for keeps. If anyone goes hard on each other, it will be brothers... you can bet that arm bar had some bite in it...

Fedor has said in interviews that his zenlike calm is the result of ritualistically clearing the mind before everyfight/sparring session.

As we all know though it is actually because it is programmed into his neuro-processor.

If it was no striking, why did they wear MMA gloves, and why did Fedor get his guard up before being tricked into clinch.

Good observations. I assumed it was no striking just because in the two or three combat sambo (or "sport jiu-jitsu" rules, which seems kind of similar in Europe) videos I've seen, they had headgear on. Maybe he and his bro just decided not to strike with each other.

wow. that was really amazing to watch. the "fake handshake to clinch" was suprising but....brothers!

It was just freakish to watch the economy of movement. nothing seemed wasted.

I wonder if we will ever see these two square off in the PRIDE ring? I can't imagine Fedor making a grapple-only pack, ala the Chute Box duo of Silva and Rua. At the same time, it hard to imagine Aleksander and Fedor trying to smash each other's faces. If Aleksander can up his game, it might just happen at some point.

You know, I've never seen it before either. I'm totally going to ask about it tonight. Thursdays are generally just a basics/drill/roll night for us, but I'm fucking asking anyway.

I saw that video a couple times and have been trying that side-mount escape for awhile.

I got it to work once. . .

On my gf, who's like 115 lbs

So, I dunno, I think I'll just file that one away for a decade or so and stick to escaping to guard or my knees until then.
