    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    need a new style

    my problem is as follows:

i have moved a year ago and since then, i'm in search of a good school.
the problem is, the only stuff near me looks, well, iffy:

    - shotokan karate (strictly sport)
    - aikikai and ki aikido
    - judo (strictly olympic rules)
    - aikibudo (not yoshinkan but some hodgepodge of several jiu jitsu systems - don't really know if its good or not)
    - shaolin kempo (= bullshido karate, may make a thread about it... it's almost comical, supposedly founded by a half mongolian prince who learnt at shaolin, got adopted by a dutch military man, learnt kyokushin etc...)
    - bullshido battojutsu

    and that's it.

    good stuff:
    - luta livre (is this just groundfighting?)
    - kyokushin (too many kata )
    - iaido (no kumitachi)
    - kendo (too expensive)
    - kickboxing with muay thai rules

i'd like something akin to sogo bujutsu: weapons, unarmed work etc. in a handy dandy package.

my problem is: i could pick a striking style, a grappling style and a weapons style, and go mma, but i don't have much money, and i'd need to find 3 arts which are relatively similar in their concepty and principles.

    any ideas?

Where do you live? Never know a person on this forum might train at or know of a place which you have missed. My tkd school has pretty much no advertising and it kicks ass.

Just go with a decent gym, maybe finds one that offers classes in several different MAs so you can try them. Shouldn't be too hard to find, a place I have in Melbourne here has Kyokushin, MT, BJJ, Boxing and Arnis at the same place, and offers unlimited classes for all of them for a monthly fee. Places like that generally have something for everyone.
Rad ki was made up by adolescents. I do not know who created trad ki but it was not made by adolescents. your an ass dude, Im not being a little bitch you are, your past the level of a bitch. Your beyond Bitch! If im easting my time with ki and psi, then your wasting time to prove frauds, and all **** like that! -theoutsider

Kick boxing is ok, but don't expect do beat a man like Rickson Gracie with that. You need a real martial art. You need Xing Yi Quan. -Emptyflower

The splits, how ever, have a few martial uses. Doing the splits for me, can put my fists in testical strike range.

dont ignore the Art for the Martial or else your just kick boxing

Yes i am serious, there are kicks that can block punches. we have them in Moo duk kwan.
I want to learn how to use them in case my arm gets broken in a fight.
what would you have me do? if my arm gets broke, not block punches? -sempi-stone

    Well, you've got:

    1. Judo
    2. Muay Thai
    3. Kyokushin

All 3 excellent styles. I think your logic regarding why these styles are inferior is faulty. If you're looking for effective styles with a higher level of competition, then I would go with one of those 3.

The problem with the "complete package" that you speak of is that unless you find an actual MMA school, most of the complete packages you come across will not actually be very effective.

As for weapons, once again if you're looking for effectiveness, buy a firearm and spend some time learing how to use it properly.

Luta livre, not lucha libre. Luta livre is BJJs country cousin.
