Check out some of Scrapper's workouts on the Body by Fish website or Burpee conditioning on the Ross Boxing site. There are other programs you can buy but these are free.
There are nice gains to be had with body weight only work. However there's a point you will need to increase the load if you want to gain more size and strength.

PO9 - thought of that. no room in the house for that kind of thing, it would have to be the kind of weight sets you can fold up and put away. Besides, I have friends that have those sorts of things. Their arms get huge, but they lose flexibility in the elbows and wrists. I'm big on swordplay, so that's a no-no for me.

At this point, it would be a good idea to work on developing core stability, form, and basically build the foundation before you go to weights. Often times people will jump on the weights despite the fact that they can barely do a single one-legged squat. Bodyweight exercises can seem tedious and boring, but this will help develop good habits for when you actually go to lift weights.
People don't do squats and deads for a few reasons. They're hard, tedious, and they don't understand them (or they heard some BS that they're dangerous). If you understand the purpose of your exercises, you'll enjoy them more.
So IMO I'd start with bodyweight squats with perfect form. I'm working with a friend of mine who has pretty much no equipment at home. Here are some of the things he's doing:
Pushups with a backpack full of books (probably 30-40 extra pounds)
Overhead Lunges with a backpack
Squats with a backpack in front
Bodyweight one-legged squats
Clean a cardboard box to shoulders full of awkward things
Farmer's Walk with duffel bags
Pushups with one arm on a basketball/medicine ball + holding
Plymetrics, sprinting, agility drills
There's a plethora of things you can think of using backpacks, suitcases, sports bags, sandbags, tree branches, chairs, and more. Just use your imagination.
