In all seriousness, humans will kill each other no matter what reason. My ex business partner would tell me stories of knives, putting razors in their hats, in the collars of their jackets, etc etc...

I always felt like using a gun was almost like cheating .
I have shot random rifles , shotguns, and pistols over the years . Nothing with any seriousness besides passing time in the country ( that can get serious ) . Then I shot a 1911 with a couple modifications on it . I knew then guns are cheating ...
I dont own one so thats all I can say about the topic ... -

I think the 1911 is an excellent suggestion for your first handgun. You should be able to find a used one in good clean condition at a gun show for a good price.
Personally, if I were only going to own one handgun, it would have to be a .45. My second choice would be the S&W .40.
It would be worth it to also purchase a .22 simply to practice with. Don't underestimate the value of using a .22 to perfect the basics. I've shot competitively since I was 16, and I still fire off a box of .22 ammo almost every time I go to the range. -

the ones i was looking at were the:
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...-1&isFirearm=Y
http://ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView...=3069&return=Y
http://www.carl-walther.de/englisch/...efense-36.html
and the top one on this http://www.berettausa.com/product/pr...stols_main.htm
I really like the Ruger and the Walther... no one has mentioned anything about any walther's are they any good?Last edited by Japuma630; 11/08/2005 9:37pm at .

I don't know how it works in MD, but when I was in Texas I went to a range where you could rent guns. It was pretty sweet, I got to shoot almost every pistol I ever wanted except the Glock 18c. But i did get to shoot the MP5 so it made up for it. If you like 9mm check out the Sig and for .45 don't forget the H&K

**** all these suggestions.
S&W 500. This is literally a hand-cannon. Not only that, your son won't be able to even lift it until he's like 13, but by then, he'll have already learned gun safety. If someone were running into your house to rob it and they saw that .50 caliber barrel pointed at them, shoot, if I were them, I'd probably drop on my knees and beg for mercy.
