Buying first pistol need some sugestions.

I'm turning 21 relativly soon and i'll be looking in to getting my first handgun and I need some suggestions. I'm look for something moderatly priced, 9mm or S&W .40, 3.5 to 4.5 inch barrel and double action. It going to be used only for some recreational shooting.

Any suggestions (Anthony i'm looking your way) and link would be appreciated.

I'd go with a .40 instead of a 9mm, even if it's only for target shooting. If you ever have to use it for self defense the .40 has a little more stopping power.

Edit: the safe action trigger means it's has a little switch/lever on the trigger so that the only way to shoot it is if your finger is firmly on the trigger/. I don't know how that's a saftey.

Try fitting it in your sons hand, see if he could accidentally shoot himself with it comfortably.

Alternatively, pick a guy that you would like a robber to turn on you. As you have the choice, you may as well be shot with a gun that has style.

Bring on the pro gun 'we really like having a gun death rate 20 times higher than the rest of the western world' lobby.

This is good for the little tyke. He can carry it in his backpack, and it doesn't have a serial so he can use it as a throwaway too.

Hm... i knew this was going to happen... now to let it go and jsut take in real comments or defend my position... oh WTF...

I've been around guns all my life, my parents have had guns, i've had shotguns and other hunting weapons. The people you are talking about with their kids shooting themselves are the ones who don't talk to their kids about gun safty and don't teach them what a gun is and how to use. You are also thinking about people who keep their firearm in a relative open area like a drawer or closett.Thats why gun safes are made and thats why you store you gun in a gun safe, unloaded, with the ammo. in another separte locked area.

If people would teach their kids gun saftey like my father did me and I plan on doing with my child there would be no problems with gun in households.

May I suggest looking at Springfield Armory XD line of fine pistols?

2003 Gun of the Year. Very low priced, and very nice pistols.

It's a bastard double action type of trigger, however, it has one more safety option that the GLOCK does not have. It has the same safety on butt as any 1911A1 handgun does.

Worth a look!

1911.

a friend of mine took me out shooting one day. Glock 9mm, H&K USP 45, Ruger, 1911, some other one, and some rifles. the 1911 felt incredibly natural. it just felt right.
