This.
What do you hope your daughters will get out of this? Fitness? Effective self defence training? Fun? Without knowing what you’re trying to achieve, no one can know what course of action is the best.
That said, if you are thinking about self defence, I have set out my opinion at some length here. The short answer would be “No, not this place; make sure they stay out of trouble, arm them if need be, and if you feel they need to learn unarmed self defence, keeping in mind that this should be the last-ditch desperate resort in a self defence situation, sign them up for BJJ or judo.” As a bonus, it’ll probably be a better workout. I think it’d be more fun, too, but obviously that’s completely subjective. -

It's not a stupid question, sir. You are smart to do your research. The previous post is correct about your reasons for finding a school in the first place. Especially if it's for self-defense; all the forms-training in the world won't help you if you "lock up" in a fight-or-flight situation.

Here is a list of the Judo clubs in PA. If self defense is your primary reason for enrolling your girls in a martial art, find one near you and give it a try. It's generally inexpensive and widely available.

Thank you, all! Really. I do appreciate your feedback and honesty.
You brought up good questions for me to consider.... our whole family is very active in many sports. Both my daughters have different reasons for wanting training. But I think it's more about self confidence.
Joe, you OPENED my eyes. I didn't think about myspace! From your response.... this guy is someone we should all warn our daughters and sisters about? THANKS!! and thanks for the list of Judo clubs. I have some research to do. Since this guy was referred by a coworker, can I have more info on the myspace so I can share with others? Several of my coworkers were also considering him.
THANKS AGAIN!!! -

Coiling Dragon Herbs run by Dale Dugas: The Best Jow for the Best Price! Style: Jook Lum South Mantis,--
The person in question, Ian Prescott. Is still listed on ashida kims ninja site as being a school where you can learn ninjitsu and other things.
I highly doubt that this person is qualified to teach Liu He Ba Fa or anything for that matter.
I wonder if he paid Ashida for some cool rankings in arts that Ashida has nothing to do with, like that guy who bought a MMA cert from Ashida??
I would avoid him.
