    resistance

    ok i know im posting a lot of noob questions but im still a beginner and want to improve.

    all of my kicks are lacking in power, if i used a rubber band to create resistance(like a bike tube) would there be any benifit to using the band rather than a heavy bag or should i use both?

    Stick with the bag. Kick as hard as you can.

    Lifting weights might help, but kicks come from the core, really...

    A big portion of power punching is the proper technique. Doubt it's different with kicking.

    You can always try the rubber band, but the heavy bag is your friend.

    Get your mechanics down. Bad mechanics = no power. Good mechanics = some power. Good mechanics + lots of heavy bag reps = great power.

    As stated above, I do weight training and bag work. I've been at it for a little over two years now and would say that I have gained a significant amount of power, primarily through repetitions. Do not underestimate the value of muscle memory and comfort. My rounds at torso level are pretty solid, but my high round is lacking. Work the technique, do what you can to strengthen the muscles in your lower abdomen and legs and just work the bag. That's what my instructor had me do and I believe it has paid some dividends. That said, I have a long way to go as well.

    Developing core strength and rotational speed will add power to your kicks. Also, improving your balance can put you in a more advantageous position to generate power, as opposed to being off-balance.

    There is no shortcut to training time, and effort.
    Learn to do the basic motions perfectly.
    After you reach a point where you are not progressing,
    then you may be ready to look for another way to train the same kick.
    NOT BEFORE!
