Its not about the fighting, I dont train to be a fighter, I train to be a martial artits.
Its an art, if i had to kick some ones ass i would throw out 95% of my training and use front kicks and basic punches and palm strikes. So why learn turn kicks, spin kicks, jump kicks, ridge hands, and knife hands?
Why learn the splits?
To grow the art, to grow as a human, and to do flashy things when I do Demos.
I want some kid to see me do the splits in a form and say "wow, I want to learn the art now too"
If i just wanted to learn to fight, I would stop learning new techniques, and perfect only 5 or 6 key tools. -

Stretching is like anything else, you get better by doing it. You have to be patient, there is no quick fix. For me, flexibility gains were always much quicker and more significant than strength gains, but that doesn't mean overnight. It may take months of dedicated stretching before you'll be able to do the splits, and depending on your age, genetics, discipline, etc., you may never be able to do them.
Be patient young grasshopper. -

Isn't there some XMA forum somewhere where your needs would be better addressed? And lord knows that to fight, all you need are "front kicks and basic punches and palm strikes", no ground work at all.

Hey, at least he's being honest about it.
This sentiment
is actually pretty much on target.

Read the "stretching in detail" thread for some good advice on stretching that may help you reach your goal of being able to do the splits.
