Drink water instead of juice or soda.
    Cut out the junk food.
    Eat healthy stuff.
    Take smaller portions.

You said you want to lose weight and put on muscle.
It's hard to do both at the same time.

If you want to lose fat, focus on that first.
Aerobic exercise + weight training + diet is supposed to be best for fat loss.

When you lose the amount of fat you want, then increase your food intake and the muscle will appear.

15 is a good time to fix those diet and exercise habits. Keep doing what you are doing, never compare yourself to anyone else.

-Keep a food diary and don't lie in it. It will help you monitor your habits.

-Exercise with intensity. If you aint sweatin' and pantin' you aint workin' hard enough.

Carl: Yeah, not like that sissy no crabs diet.

Fryolock: Um... I believe you mean "no carbs", Carl.

Carl: Yeah, but, you see, I have crabs... So I don't qualify for that.

Losing weight is easy. The hardest part is being mentally tough.

Take in about 2400 calories (bw*11) to start. Get at least an hour of working out in every day. You won't have problems building muscle when you have little to start with.

Look to diet for 14-20 weeks or longer to lose 22lbs. Losing weight fast is not a good thing if you want to preserve or in your case build muscle. Shedding about a 1.5lbs a week or less is what you should be aiming for.

    Amen.

I lost 20 pounds in three months by just upping my exercise a bit, cutting out crappy snacks like chips and candy (which are free at my work, hence the problem), and not going back for seconds after dinner which I'd always done out of habit, not due to hunger.

If I know that I'll be going out for a good dinner with my wife, I simply make sure to earn the feast ahead of time. I make sure to do a rigorous exercise program that day, so that the output is greater or equal to the calorie intake. Using this common sense approach, I can still splurge now and then, but I just need to pay off the calories with some exercise before hand. If my activity level is low, as it currently is with a knee injury, I just make sure to decrease my portion sizes accordingly. Even though I haven't been able to exercise for two weeks, I've lost 3 pounds.

All in all, it is only a minor adjustment to my habits, but one that will be very easy to maintain. No fancy diet about it. Nothing challenging to remember.

Don't look at weight. You want to lose fat, not weight. Gaining muscle will stop you from losing weight, but help you lose fat.

So don't look at the scale. People have given good tips for losing weight. Most importantly you need to read up on nutrition so you can start eating healthy. No, not asparagus shakes or any of that nonsense. Just being able to know when you can eat a burger and when you've had too much. Most importantly: ease into it. Your body doesn't like change. If you try to drastically change your habits over night, you'll go into a "relapse". You need to gradually change your life. Just take it easy, stay the course, and it'll happen.

    Good luck.

    Thanks guys.

My blood pressure has gone down slightly...which is a sign of definite improvement. I really need to improve my diet, I don't eat much. I eat one meal at noon. So I think I might research Nutrition as well.

I work out pretty hard. I usually keep my heart rate up at 195 when doing cardio.

Again, thanks for the advice. :toothy3:
