Guantanamo Military 'offered prostitutes' and detained own priest.

    (Taken from: http://www.theadvertiser.news.com.au...5E1702,00.html )

A FORMER United States Army chaplain says Australian prisoner David Hicks was offered sex with prostitutes in return for information during his detention at Guantanamo Bay.

Hicks has been in US custody since he was captured alongside Taliban forces in Afghanistan in late 2001, and has spent most of that time at the Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba.

US Army Captain James Yee was one of the few people given regular access to Hicks, who is awaiting trial on charges of conspiracy, attempted murder and aiding the enemy.

"On occasion he would talk about, for example, in his interrogations that he was offered a prostitute in return for giving some type of information," Captain Yee told ABC television.

"But he felt that that was just an insult to him - it was an insult to being a Muslim, a practising Muslim."

Captain Yee, who was himself arrested on suspicion of espionage and held in solitary confinement for 76 days, said that since being charged and moved into isolation, Hicks had passed his time studying Islamic law.

"He was just really asking that I request to make more visits to him because I was really, essentially, the only one he had contact with," he said.

"The command only allowed me to go once a week.

"They weren't open cells, they were completely closed, he had no access to sunlight."

Captain Yee received an honourable discharge from the service after authorities eventually dismissed the charges against him in March 2004.

Hicks has pleaded not guilty to charges the charges laid against him.

A military commission is finally due to begin his hearing next month.

US legal adviser to the military commissions, Brigadier-General Thomas Hemingway, said last week that if Hicks was convicted, the years he has spent in Guantanamo Bay would count for nothing in any sentencing.

Hey, I can't help it if I'm genetically predisposed to be humorous. It's just my way of distracting you whilst I boost your wallet.

Beer and blasphemy sound good, though I'm more of a wine drinking blas-pheemer myself. (I know I know, quel snob!)

Speaking of which, isn't there some sort of mini-throwdown happening in Pleasant Hill in November? Maybe instead of beer and blasphemy we could always mutually knock loose a few chunks of gray matter! :ohyea7qh:

Guantanamo doesn't exist because it contradicts the USA's position as the leading authority in human rights and justice.

That beats torture. :ohyea7qh: What the **** kind of religion makes people feel bad for getting offered sex anyway? Oh right... all of them. Suckers.

I heard an interesting point on the radio last night while I was riding home.

Journalists are the new KGB that operate like communist russia.

There is no one to watch them and little consequenses for thier actions.

More interested in finding "dirt" on people they report not what is the truth, but what is thier truth, not what is responsible journalism, or even balanced journalism.

These people are freaking prisoners, but our media seems to think it should be day care.

Even prisoners have legal and human rights.

I never knew Muslim clergy were called "Priests." James Yee was an Islamic chaplain.

And, while listening to the RADIO, did you not stop to think about how you should doubt the 'liberal media'?
