    On supermans you raise your leg up one at a time. When I first got back into lifting these helped me a lot to work my back strength up to a decent level. I also did straight leg deadlifts with dumbbells.

    How does that stretch your lower back? Don't you need to contract your lower back to get to that position?

    Good point PL. In terms of muscle, it actually stretches your abs, not your back. The benefit to your back comes from stretching the ligaments on the anterior lumbar spine. This is what I meant by stretching your lower back. It's actually stretching your lumbar spine. Those ligaments tend to get very tight while the posterior ligaments get very loose due to bad posture, the way we stretch, and several other reasons. By stretching those anterior ligaments you're promoting spinal stability and lessening the chances of injuring a disc.

    I see. Same with hip flexors, I assume? Nobody ever stretches them, so that's why they "pull" on the lower back and cause pain?

    Yes, that can definitely be a factor in back pain.

    Damnit I wish I can come but I'm piled with homework and projects, etc.
    Junior year sucks ass and my parents are the most closed minded people ever. They hear a single thing about a 'throwdown' and they start throwing fits.

    I can drive but don't have a license because they don't want to pay for my insurance - you get the point =/
