I actually like the three-section staff. It's fun to play with. Do it right and it's painless (for the user, obviously). Do it wrong....well, apparently a lot of people do it wrong.
I actually heard that nunchucku were originally used as a chainsaw. I've even made some to test it out. They worked great! They just have a longer chain. -

Whereas my Kenjutsu and Fencing experience is admittedly meagre compared to many on this board, I still want to add something here.
