Palm in hooks will work close up or far away and won't break your hand. Palm down may be fine if your opponent is in close, but if they've got good head movement and pull back and your pinky makes contact with that temple, don't cry to me.
Furthermore, palm in hooks work well in a clinch, to say an oppnent's ribs, I cannot say the same for palm down.
Hook with your palm down at your own risk.
I don't know about this whole "hitting with the pinky" theory of yours, but I think it's contrary to the teachings of boxing which promotes hitting with the last 3 knuckles instead of the first two. For instance, when throwing a straight punch, you're supposed to turn your hand over so that your thumb is more or less parallel to the floor. The same is applied to hooks.

I've been taught the palm down hook.
I always used to hook palm in, but now that just feels really odd to me.

From a boxing perspective, there's really no right or wrong answer regarding the palm in or palm down hook. Trainers teach either.
The hook is usually taught as palm down, and most amatuers do it that way. Most pros keep the palm facing the body.
If done properly, you'll ultimatley have more power with palm in, but it's a little more difficult to get the technique down properly so that you score with every hook that way. With palm in, there's a tendancy, especially with beginners, to connect with the wrong part of the hand. That's why amatuers will usually use palm down as it's more likely to be scored that way.
Also palm in protects your ribs better. The window for a rib shot is much larger when using palm down. Palm down also doesn't flow into combos as well.
However, palm down works really well for many fighters.
I think though that for muy thai, palm down would make more sense b/c of the potential of throwing an elbow. Just a guess though, I've never trained muy thai.

Hooks - Palm towards or down = personal preference.
Shadow boxing is basically "form work", you don't go fast and you don't put power into the strikes.
You work on technique, angles, body positioning, head movement, visualisation.
Now, to the clip...
I take it you are new at this.
Your hands are to close to your face.
Your elbows come up to soon and do not protect your body.
Your shoulders are stiff and lack rotation into the strikes.
Your lower body movement is pratically non-exsistent.
Your knees are stiff, inflexibale and your upperbody is to stiff.
Your elbows are wide and will be more like forearms then elbows.
Your hooks and uppercuts have no body behind them
I can't see your feet, but by the looks of it, you have no lateral footwork and your pivoting is virtually nil.
All in all, you need to improve in all areas of boxing.
You kept your hands up most of the time ( though too close).
You remembered to do do blocking moves too, though they also need much work.

Well my ju jitsu is mma to the gyst of it, but i havn't been there for like a month and i gotta wiat like a week till results from a biopsy come back, i gotta really nasty skin rash on my leg and arm, My instructor has spent like whole classes with me on boxing basics and stuff, but like you said I'm really new to this.

Never noticed the shoulder thing, i'll be sure to work on it.
my knees are prolly stiff, I didn't move my lower body hardly cause the room is small and the cam sucks.
How can I improove upon my elbows there?
