Blood noses

Does anyone else get these quite often (and I'm not talking about after being hit in the nose)?

Until a few years ago I used to get blood noses at least once a week, and it would normally bleed quite heavily for half an hour to an hour. Now it doesn't happen that often, but it still happens sometimes, though luckily it usually stops bleeding after a few minutes. It's such a nuisance!

What do you normally do when you get one? For me, I normally find it best just to sit down and try to relax so my blood doesn't pump around so fast, and just wait until it stops, no squeazing or anything.

I've never had that, but when I wrestled in high school, I remember at least two wrestlers having that problem from cutting weight. They were both big cutters, at least 20 lbs. each.

So, my guess is that it's a nutritional deficiency of some sort. I think I remember hearing Iron, but I'm not sure about that either.

I used to have this problem. According to the doctor I saw, It can be from several things:

1.) Sinus trouble. If the membranes in your nose get too dried out, they will crack and bleed profusely.

2.) High blood pressure can sometimes cause this.

3.) Nutritional deficiency, but lawdog already jumped on that one.

Those are the three I remember, at least.

Edit -- I still get the occasional nosebleed during seasonal changes (my sinuses dry out), but I stopped having major trouble years ago. I used to have this cream I had to swab around in my nose, but I haven't used it in probably 5 years.

I used to be iron anemic and would get bloody noses all the time, so I'd have to go with that.

I'm sorta famous around here for bleeding. Only whenI get hit though. Sometimes the capillaries in the nose are just too close to the surface.

Just in case you're serious and not just joking, yes cutting means dropping weight.

Although, now that you mention it, I'm surprised nobody ever tried bleeding themselves to drop those last few ounces. I've seen almost everything else tried.
