    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Failed ezekiel to spine lock from mount (deficent?)

OK, so last night I got a spine lock from mount after class was really over so I did not get a chance to ask about it. I am wondering if this is a poor move against a better player.

I am in mount. I have the ezekiel with his chin pointing to my left, but his chin is tucked and I am not making headway to getting my forearm under it. I shift my base off to the right and hook his right leg with my left. I use this hook to turn his body to the right getting him to tap long before I lost range of movement with the hooking leg.

Am I setting myself up for failure by the base shift? Is this a valid spine lock on most players or was it a fluke?

Best description my partner could give it based on where he felt the pressure. I initially started the move as a way to try to force him to move his damn chin, the sub was a bit of a surprise in that I did not think I could get him far enough for a spine lock at the time.

Yeah yeah, so would google. My understanding of spine locks (as a class of subs like armbar) is putting the spine through its full range of twisting, locking it out, and then twisting a bit more. For instance we do a spine lock from a failed/defended RNC in certain situations.

Eddie Bravo has some stuff up on them; maybe he has pics.

No, we need pictures of you, not Eddy doing the twister.

That would a long time coming (read never) since I do not have a cam to readily demonstrate the random move I stumbled into. OK, fair enough.
