What's this? Wastrel's invented a new concept about how different styles are differently effective for different people in different situations? I think he should call it the 'wheel theory of martial arts' to exemplify how much it is something that's never been said before, not even by me. *cough, stomp*

    Hey Merc,
I like to try and attack things at an extremely basic level in order to establish simple axioms from which we might progress. I'm not sure why you should resent that.
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

I don't resent at all the systematic destruction of the martial status quo from underneath through the introduction of basic paradigms steeped in philosophical relativity. My objection is directed towards any contention, actual or implied, that this would be an original approach in achieving the above end.

Where do you find that contention Merc?

There is nothing wrong with "re-inventing the wheel" so to speak.
Sometimes by going over the classics, we remember things we forgot.
Sometimes a little bit of common sense gets thrown back into the equation.
Heck, Bruce Lee did it with JKD.
Did he invent anything new? nope, but did he introduce it to a new generation? yes and we are all better for it.
