This is the problem right there.
Everyone is trained to fight. Only very few are trained to survive, but getting out with minimum damage.

True, but its almost certainly got nothing to do with heavily controlled gun ownership in the UK.

It's been illegal to carry a gun for self defence in the UK since 1946. Although you could own a handgun until 1996 hardly anyone did. Although I know lots of people who blast clays and birds with shotguns I only ever met two people who owned a handgun. Only one of those kept his handgun at home the other kept his at his gun club.

BTW it's still legal to own firearms in the UK. Handguns are outlawed and rifles are strictly controlled but you can own shotguns without too much hassle.

The spike in gun crime since 1996 probably has more to do with a change in the culture of the criminals dealing drugs than with the outlawing of handgun ownership.
Failing to become awesome since 1976

    >> still guns or knives, if you are a criminal and that you don't have the balls to take someone empty handed, then you don't deserve the title of thug...

That is the stupidest comment I have ever heard.

You don't honestly believe that criminals give a **** about 'balls' do you? Its about fucking the target up big time...think FUBAR not 'I'm tough'. Criminals don't attack someone to 'prove their cred'....not the serious guys who will stalk you with a weapon. In the end they want you down and don't care 'bout much else.....thats why their criminals and not pro fighters.

God I hope we don't see a rush of rbsd back patting over this.

You will. And it will start at Pax.

And who cares? It will just cause the already paranoid to justify carrying that extra blade or gun with them. I get the feeling the RBSD crowd is relatively small and insular.

In the streets when you are against people who wield weapons the only thing that works is awareness and decissiveness. I think its more of a mental issue than techniques or MMA or whatever.

People die and thats a fact, when you see someone coming at you with a knife its a whole new world sweetheart and you better get on with it any way you can and as fast as you can before someone else comes from behind and ruins your fancy moves party :P

The truth is, if you want to train for survival its gonna be really different than training for a ring fight.

Like Bruce Lee used to say hehe and he said it right:

"If you are talking about combat as it is, baby you better train every part of your body"

with the arguments about mma not working on the street, its very likely he survived (but still went to hospital) because of his training. getting out unharmed against multiple people with knives only happens in movies

sucky situation to be in, probably drunk and multiple armed attackers come for you :( is there any news if the attackers got caught and jailed?

My question is "Why did those dudes attack his ass?" My guess is "They probably had a good reason." He's been in 300+ streetfights? I'm sure he pissed someone off during that time enough that they'd want to come back and stab him. Damn shame.
