My little sister's ex-boyfriend is a MCMAP instructor. Real hard dude. Nice guy, real gentleman, would even go grocery shopping for my mom and help her around the house. My sister has dated some real losers in her time, and she finally brought home a guy I approved of...

    So what does she do?

Dump him and start dating some dude in a band...
The idea of a branch system was inspired by the ROK Marines from my understanding too. When I was in, I took TKD from a guy that was ranked in ATA and also worked out with the ROK Marines during Operation Team Spirit....the stories he told about belt tests!

Shamrock, like any of these commercial martial arts guys HAS to promote himself, so until someone calls him on it in an interview, the "first one" comment will be associated with his name....and make him look good for marketing.

The thing to remember with a military hand to hand system is that simplicity rules. 10 techinques or combinations that you can do while your dead tired, wounded and bleeding (or puking, drunk and staggering....) are better than 100 that make you look good on the studio floor.

Guys like Shamrock, BJJ people and others probably aren't showing anything above green belt (and the volume is far less than the real 'belt track' material) but the simplicity and reduced volume only means that you can really get good at it faster.

Civilian/Commerical martial arts schools have to try and 'sell' the whole warrior building within a martial arts package. Military systems have to 'sell' hand to hand as another tool for an already developed warrior to accomplish his mission.

Yes, through persistent lack of work and the cultivation of ignorance, he is a true American.

Far be it from me to split hairs...but the winner of the first Ultimate Fighting Championship was Royce Gracie. He tapped Ken Shamrock out in the semi-finals...and it was in 1993.

Now that we have the facts straight...all the Shamrock stuff won't work against ninjas anyway, cause ninjas are supersweet and cool!!

I didn't write the article. I think they were probably talking about Pancrase. But yeah, I'll edit that out for continuity.

i'm not going to look up nancy wake or the nazis and all that; it's irrelevant. i did not say it wasn't possible for you to break a neck. hell, your method could be laying a guy's neck over a saw horse, climbing up a step ladder, and jumping off onto his head. sure, you could break someone's neck. you could read something in a book and say, 'gee, i bet i could do that', and maybe you could. i'm not debating your strength or ability to follow directions. what i'm calling shenanigans on is this:

proficient means that you do it at an advanced level, that you're somewhat of an authority on the subject. one would imagine you would have to actually break a neck or two to reach this level. either you were unaware of the use of the word 'proficient', or you just cut a i'm-implying-i'm-a-mercenary-with-a-shady-past fart. i turned on a fan just in case.

Me? A mercenary? ME? WITH A PROPER JOB?! BWA HA HA!

I DID meet an ex-mercenary once. Lovely guy. About 5ft6.

Anyway, I would like to rephrase what I meant in the light of Sizzler's comments. I am FAMILIAR with the THEORY of breaking necks and would be able to do it if pissed off and desperate enough.
