Sandline International's a UK merc outfit, although they seem to claim to be more of a security consultant..

EDIT: Oops. They WERE, anyway. They closed last year. :fucyc:

Most mercs nowadays come from professional armies, either those who left it to seek more money or finished their term and wanted to keep doing what they do. Quite a bit of the SAS and French Foreign Legionnaires go merc from what the statistics say. There's nothing that I know of that would be considered a "merc school," they mostly look for ex-soldiers with plenty of combat experience and training.

For example, Blackwater USA: loaded with former Army SF, SEALs, and Recon. No amateurs in that outfit.

So it's legit to be a mercenary? Like if you're an American could you fight for the Kuwaiti Government without being tried for some sort of treason in the U.S.?

Wasn't Blackwater founded by Demo Dick Marchinko?

Well, it's job specific, but If Kuwait wasn't acting against the interests of the US, how are you different from anybody else who works out of the country? Not all mercenaries are automatically persona non grata.

It depends. If you fight for an opposing group against the US then you can indeed be brought up for treason. Look a John Walker Lindh. He trained at an Al Queda camp and fought for the Taliban against the US.

Now I've met real mercs and many who claimed to be mercs. The difference is the real ones all had one thing in common, military service in their respective countries. Not saying some necessarily had to have served but from experience the ones that were real did the ones that were BS (if you don't know how to work an AK you've NEVER been a merc!) didn't.
