I only see one person changing the subject hereGerry.[/QUOTE

Douvris has been a McDojo for 10 years, John never even got a Black Belt, everyone that lives in Ottawa knows that.
I did a Class at Ronin, was Ok, but I'm trying Therien next week.
I suppose they'll go after Therien soon?

Gerry, may I ask whom you have been training with in Chito Ryu? Did or do you train with Douvris? You should know that the Douvris style is not Chito Ryu - not even close. Chito Ryu is based on Shuri and Naha Te - short stances. In terms of "being fast"...Douvris krotty has everything to do with looking cool, nothing to do with an ability to fight. You should really watch the matt thorton posted on this site.

But it's years of having to defend yourself from idiots who think that toughness is the ability to win a fight that will teach you self defence.
...I dunno Gerry, I'm pretty keen on being able to win fights, which is why I've expanded my training beyond karate.
Soon someone will come on here and change the subject and tell you that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the best Martial art that there is around and you should "come and join us here at Ronin or OAMA " cause we want to help a brother out!

That's the real Bullshit on this site, It's all a marketing plan for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
They will tell you how they are real fighters, the truth is there are only about 4 fighters in their schools that actualy compete,( mostly part time Intstructors, the head Instructors Ben Meireles and Pat Cooligan don't even fight, they use a couple of morons to do their bidding( talk about stupid)!

good Luck,
I'll be around to let you know when you're being suckered
P.S. they may have already sent you a PM, Don't fall for it, all they want is your Money!

Gerry Mansfield
Thanks for the heads up Gerry.

Actually, Gerry, I'm already looking at BJJ and Judo as a total style switch. Go and watch a mma class at oama and tell me any of those guys couldnt beat the living crap out of any of these McDojo owners....

Ah Man, !!!! Are you training at OAMA ? Please tell the truth, did you get recruited off this site by Askari?

I tried a class at Ronin, yeah they are OK .

Try Takahashi for Judo, He's a class act , went to the Olympics and is less commercial than those guys.

I hope I'm wrong here about you Karate 26.

Another alternative in Ottawa

http://www3.sympatico.ca/cwade/ninja-ryu.htm

This is another alternative for a non commercial Dojo.
If you are interested in picking up grappling skills.

The exact source of Mr. Douvris's Dan ranking is also questionable...his most recent promotion to 7th dan in karate was from the IAKSA kickboxing association.
