    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Trained with a JKD/TKD cat today...

Definitely have a newfound respect for them after meeting this guy, probably a rare one to meet but still he was really talented. I met him in my college classes and at the time all I knew was of his TKD history, but once we got talking found out besides his two years of TKD he's also done five of JKD. So he, myself, and a buddy of mine got together at my house today and did some training out in my backyard and some friendly sparring.

He was extremely fast and had strong strikes, his kicks especially were pretty tough to deal with. This was my first time sparring someone of either JKD or TKD, and I've got to say at least as far as he goes I was pretty impressed. His trapping and strikes were nice to see in action, he's one of the few people I've seen who can pull them off pretty well sparring. His speed was the main thing for me, my footwork's always been the steady sure-footed type and this guy's bouncing around like Bruce Lee leaving me in the dust. We traded some good shots, had some fun with it, and I got to see how my kicks were doing (which seem to be improving slowly but surely).

Afterwards he showed me some of the basics and a few little tricks, and I taught him a few nifty BBT tricks I like. Unfortunately, his cousin didn't show up (guy's pure ATA, been with it for 3 years) and we mostly just did standup sparring, no real rolling. He knows he's pretty weak on the ground, so his next step is Kodokan judo once he gets his BB in TKD. All in all, good training, and he's upped my estimates of how the two perform, though to be honest a guy who does several hundred kicks each day is not your typical TKDer.

    Trapping.... blah.

Any GnP action? People who dance around all the time are just asking to be dropped on their head.

His "trapping" was more for making openings than really trying to control. He actually had the hand speed and timing down well to be really good at it, and he'll check you with his legs too to keep you distracted. No real groundfighting this time, too few people showed up but next time we plan to make it more mixed than just sparring standup.

Yeah, especially from hanging around here I now want to find more people to train with to see what they have to offer and what I can steal off of them to help improve my MA :book1:

I quite enjoy rolling with practitioners of other MA's myself, providing that they are cool and open minded.

Yeah. No fun if you end up sparring the types that insist they could kill you on "the street" no matter how well they performed in the match.
