Kick a harder bag. You condition your shins to get used to the feeling of impact on a solid object. Shin to shin contact is pretty much always going to hurt, but kicking a hard bag will strengthen your legs to a points where it's not as bad.

My brother orginally built it a while ago. I took it up after the heavy bag stopped tickling my fancy.
I'm thinking about trying to modify it with springs if possible to add a little give.

Immediately stop kicking the post. It is damaging either your form or your leg. Possibly both. Seriously. If you don't beleive this list in yout head the myriad differences between a post and a person.

Your Heavy bag probably wasn't conditiong your shin because it was a soft boxing style bag. A good long thai bag should be hard and heavy at the bottom. That is where the shin conditioning takes place.
