Mr. Porter is an incredibly talented, experienced, and knowledgeable martial artist. Merely looking at his credentials and accomplishments will cause some to wet themselves in awe. He's the real deal, and he actually ran the largest American Judo/Jujitsu organization for quite some time.
The quality I like most about Mr. Porter is that he's genuinely a nice guy. He responds to every email (I've spoken with him several times), makes a point to "publicize" any events that are asked (for free, as his organization is Non-Profit), and organizes events for fair prices.
He also travels in really good company, often hosting events with Doces Pares Escrima, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and other well-known styles/stylists.
Don't fuss too much over his ranks, as many of them are honorary for his accomplishments.
Oi, I'll shut up now, as I sound like a starstruck girlfriend.
Should be fun, let us know how it goes.
May you achieve

Porter is both loved and hated in the Judo community. I'm not old enough to know all the gossip, but has to do with $ of coarse. I've been to a clinic of his. He is a great instructor. His USMA orginization is a joke though. He will promote everybody at the seminar as long as they join the USMA. I think he's getting senile in his old age.

I've been to Porter seminars twice, once in the mid-1980's and once in the mid-1990's. Both times I was impressed with him as a coach. Both times I was bugged by his pushing the USJA membership sign ups.
