    san antonio recommended schools

I looked at the txmma.com website and found a few links to san antonio martial arts schools and wondering if someone has a recommendations?

I'm completely new to Martial Arts, but have interest primarily in building some self-confidence, improving my fighting skills and becoming fit again. I'm a newbie looking for a good place to start so any recommendations are welcome.

    Thanks.

Been a few years since I lived there, but:

Do not go to PKI or Any School on Marbach Road.

There used to be a BJJ school off of Babcock and Eckhert. There was also a Kenpo school near there with a real ass of an instructor, avoid that one.

If you can get on base, check the Warhawk gym on Lackland AFB. That was the no frills, mans gym. An old hanger with free weights and a duffle bag filled with sand and towels for a punching bag. Guys used to wreslte and practice there all the time, usually nothing formal, but good to learn somethings.

Check out Rey Gil. He's at 119 E. Rhapsody. He's got a karate(I know) and a BJJ program. He's either a blue or purple and is a Carlos Machado affiliate. He's fought a few times in MMA amature shows too.

Not sure the president of the Erasure fan club should be posting here.

What is a BJJ school and also what is a SBG?

Thanks for the suggestion Peter. I can't get on base though...civilian here.

He trains under Carlos Machado. Also Carlos or some of his high ranking students give seminars at Rey's gym. I think if you compete at a Machado tourny affiliates get a discount, not sure though, ask Rey on that.
