Any good schools in Austin, TX?

    Hello, everybody...

I will soon be moving down to Austin from Dallas and would like to know if anyone can tell me about some good schools down there? I have a background in boxing, mostly, but was in Judo fo a few years, too. I am looking for something different. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check out the Vasquez Academy. It's a Renzo affiliiate. If you've been to the MMA shows in Dallas, odds are you've seen some of our guys fight. Rudy has classes in boxing, kickboxing and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. PM me and I'll give you more info, phone number, etc. I already sound like a commercial as it is.
Also, what part of Austin are you moving to? We are south.

There's a guy in Austin named Larry who claims he can levitate. I would check that out too.

Thanks, I will definitley look into it. I think I may have heard about the Vasquez Academy. I was in Austin a few years ago visiting a friend of mine, who was an unfortuante student of Shaolin-Do Kung Fu. I saw a his Green Belt class, headed by some pretty boy who barked orders like a Marine Drill Sgt. My buddy claimed that he was a badass, but I doubt it. (I have heard you guys talk SD, and just wanted to relate to you my small brush with crap) I will definitlely check out the Vasquez Academy, as I will be in Austin this weekend to look for an apartment. Moving North-North Central, by the way.

Oh, and I will look up Levitating Larry, as well...

    jorrybee,

What do you mean by 'different'? What kinds of things are you looking for in a school?

Whoah are you serious? Who is this guy? (not that I believe he can levitate, but I'd certainly like to go check out his school for laughs)

    OP --

There isn't much for judo in Austin, I'm sorry to say. UT and ACC have classes and clubs for it, I think, but you have to be a student. There's the USMAI on Guadalupe that claims to teach it, but I think you have to take TKD and hapkido as well.

For boxing, there's always Vasquez Academy, the South Austin Gym, and Lord's Boxing. It just depends on where you're going to live and how far you're willing to drive.
